Short Film ‘Torn’ on the Festival Circuit

Northern Ireland has a thriving and wonderfully diverse short film scene. This provides actors and crew alike with lots of opportunity to practice their craft in a real and meaningful way.
Short films are an ideal way to learn more about the film making process and to make important connections with those working in the industry. We encourage the actors on our books to audition for short film projects and we advise them on who they should collaborate with.

‘Torn’ – directed by Joe McStravick and produced by Shelley Lowry was embarked upon to showcase several Shelley Lowry Talent actors and is currently making its way around the film festival circuit. We are currently developing our next short film script which will begin production early in 2023.

‘Secret Weapon’ – Jude Hill

Article: Gregory Ellwood

‘Belfast’

Kenneth Branagh’s personal period piece was a genuine crowd-pleaser and that’s hard to do when your setting is The Troubles in 1969 Northern Ireland. It feels like the most sure-fire BP nominee, but likely will be more of a word-of-mouth player than a critical darling. That being said, it feels like Branagh has a better shot at a nomination for his Original Screenplay than direction, and stars Caitriona Balfe and Jamie Dornan are “likely” in the mix for Lead Actress and Actor nominations respectfully (a final decision hasn’t been made at this time).

The movie’s real secret weapon with voters? Fantastic newcomer Jude Hill, who plays Kenneth as a 9-year-old (one of many great young actor performances so far this year), and Judi Dench, as his grandmother, who may just seal the deal. And, as always, you can never discount Dench’s chances in the Supporting category even though she hasn’t been nominated since 2014.

Film Festival News

Still reeling from the amazing reviews from Telluride Film Festival in Colorado, it has just been announced that ‘Belfast’ will also feature in the upcoming BFI London Film Festival.

We are very much looking forward to hearing the reviews from the film’s next Gala Screening at the Toronto Film Festival on 12th September.

So excited for Jude Hill & Lewis McAskie who both star in this wonderful film.

‘Mothering Sunday’ with Olivia Colman, Colin Firth and our very own Forrest Bothwell will also feature in the upcoming BFI London Film Festival and the Toronto Film Festival.

What a year for these talented actors!
